Deflate Gate/Science Fair 2015

Blake came home on Monday in tears, lots of tears.  He said the deadline for turning in his science project was this Friday and he knew Chad was really busy at work (evidently I was no good for this project...I'm pretty good at science you know!) and he was sure there wasn't enough time to get the project done.  First graders are not required to turn in science projects, but are welcome to participate.  I was sure I hadn't seen anything about a deadline, but Blake was absolutely positive Mrs. Nelson said the projects had to be turned in this week.  So, I placed a call to Chad, he stopped by Sports Authority on his way home to get all of the necessary supplies and the next day we all headed to the high school football field to throw some footballs. Blake thought it would be fun to try and figure out if the balls Tom Brady was throwing prior to the Super Bowl were really giving him an advantage. We had one ball at 5 PSI and one at 7 PSI.  Chad and Blake threw each ball 10 times....and it turns out Tom Brady is a big, fat (handsome) CHEATER! We also found out Blake's science project isn't due until the end of March.  Thanks Chad for being such an awesome Daddy!

Staycation

I really don't like the word staycation.  Partly because it's a made up word, but mostly because it means you didn't get to go on vacation and you're trying to pretend there is something fun about that! Here are some pictures from our February break staycation:

Break started the day before Valentine's Day, so we had plenty of candy and love notes on hand.

Pre-K

Lauren's class has been working on different projects that help the kids learn that being different from each other is okay.  For this project they each had to think of something that was special and different about themselves.  Lauren's was "It's okay to be taller than your friends". As the girl who was ALWAYS in the back row in every class picture, the back row of class, etc. I can't tell you how much I loved seeing this!

Another day the kids took turns listing what you can tell by looking at each student.  Then each child took a turn answering questions that would let you know "What you can only learn by getting to know you". A few of my favorites from Lauren's list:
What is your favorite word? Love
Favorite animal - horse
Favorite color - pink (although you may be able to figure this one out by looking at her!)
Something that makes you happy - "Getting tickles! My Daddy always tickles me, even when I hug him."
Do you like being beautiful? "Yes, and I like my toys being clean." This made me laugh, you are my little organizer.
Do you like the boys or girls at the park? "I like both!"
Favorite dinner - "Pizza, my Mom knows how to make it."

Happy Groundhog's Day

I thought this might cheer up some people (grandparents) who are still mourning the Super Bowl loss.
Today at school Lauren's class made these sweet hats.  She said "the groundhog saw it's shadow so there will be six more days of Christmas".  I love it my girl, that sounds much better than six more weeks of winter!

Blue Friday/Crazy Hair Day

Every Friday at school is Blue Friday and this last week was Super Blue Friday as well as crazy hair day.  Everyone at our bus stop had green and blue hair.

It was a fun ride, has any team ever been to the Super Bowl 3 times in a row?!?
